The Schmidt Center first opened its doors on September 21, 1984. Construction of the building began on October 1, 1982 and was made possible by the Schmidt's generous donation of over $1 million. The building was designed by the McCall & Lynch architectural firm and was constructed by the Rogers and Ford Construction Company.
