1987: Men's Soccer Wins Boca Raton's First National Championship
Lynn University's championship success started in 1987 at the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship in Wichita Falls, Texas. Known then as the College of Boca Raton, the men's soccer team defeated Simon Fraser (B.C.) 1-0 in overtime, starting an athletic dominance that has spanned seven sports to date.
Highlights from the season:
- Head Coach Roy Wiggemansen was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year.
- Darek Backman, Darrin Kelly and Mark Vermuelen were named NSCAA All-Americans.
- Mark Vemeulen, Michael Araujo and Euclides De Gouvia were honored as NAIA All-Americans.
