Abstract

This study examined college students’ emotional and physiological responses to a 45-minute group drumming session using principal component analysis (PCA) to identify response patterns. Measures included mood, social interest, blood pressure, and heart rate collected before and after drumming. PCA findings indicated that factors such as age, prior music experience, and academic status influenced reactivity more strongly than physiological markers. Younger students, those with music experience, and first- and second-year students demonstrated higher levels of responsiveness compared to upperclassmen and graduate students.
