Abstract

Plenary Session -

Noah Thorne, MA and Ali Cunningham Abbott, PhD, LMHC, QS moderate a panel discussion titled “Advocating for our BIPOC, Trans & Queer Community.”

Given the current political climate in Florida, it is important to stay informed about and connected with folks who are already doing great work despite being the target of legislative change & medical bans. In this session, participants will learn about the measures enacted in Florida that directly impact the BIPOC, trans & queer community and how the community has responded from those directly involved in this work. We will then go on to describe the unique needs and resilience factors among the community and finally, discuss how Adlerians can support BIPOC trans & queer clients and community members.

Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the sociopolitical climate in Florida and the unique needs & resilience of the BIPOC, trans & queer community.
  2. Identify Adlerian concepts championed and practiced in the BIPOC, trans & queer community.
  3. Discuss the ways Adlerian mental health professionals can support the BIPOC, trans & queer folks in their own communities.
