The Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition (EOIVC) was established by celebrated violinist, Elmar Oliveira, in collaboration with the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University. The mission of the EOIVC is to help talented and young violinists, ages 16-32, launch their performance careers. Winners receive monetary prizes ranging from $5,000-$30,000, as well as long-term career development tools.
The competition is held every three years. Competitors are adjudicated by a panel of judges that consists of internationally acclaimed violinists. The EOIVC appoints a composer-in-residence and commissions a musical work for the competition’s repertoire. Competitors go through four stages: the application round, quarterfinals, semifinals, and the finals. The final round is held at the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center at Lynn University, and finalists perform a concerto accompanied by the Lynn University Philharmonia.
More than 80 applicants from over 15 countries applied to the EOIVC for its inaugural competition in 2017. Twenty competitors advanced to the semifinal round, and four of them appeared in the final round. More than 1.5 million viewers tuned in to the live-stream of the final concert.
