The competition evolved from the idea that Mr. Joseph Robinson, the Artist-in-Residence (Oboe) at Lynn University, wanted to present the musical talent of the Tashkent Trio, a chamber music trio comprised of three Conservatory students from Uzbekistan. The trio was invited to perform at the concert hosted by the Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York in 2013. Dr. Joan Kretschmer, a board member of the Lyric Chamber Music Society, was so impressed by their performance that she wanted to invite other Conservatory students the following year. Thus, Dr. Jon Robertson turned this opportunity into a competition.
Since 2014, the Conservatory of Music has collaborated with the Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York to host an annual chamber music competition. Three renowned musicians are invited to adjudicate the competition, and first-place winners have a chance to perform at the Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York. This prominent performance opportunity allows them to make their New York debut. Furthermore, their performance is broadcast by WQXR, a classical radio station that is part of New York Public Radio. Second-place winners receive a performance prize at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Delray Beach.
The chamber music competition demonstrates the Conservatory’s commitment and dedication to the chamber music program at Lynn University.
