Abstract
Artificial intelligence is no longer something institutions are experimenting with—it is already reshaping how we teach, assess, and operate. The challenge many universities now face is not adoption, but coordination: how to move from scattered use of AI tools to a more intentional, institution-wide approach.
This session draws on Fulbright-supported work and ongoing institutional initiatives, shaped by experience across both US and European higher education contexts, to show how that transition can be approached in practice. I will walk through examples from curriculum development, faculty engagement, and cross-functional collaboration that highlight both the opportunities and the friction points institutions are currently navigating. Many of these insights emerged from working across both US and European higher education contexts.
Rather than presenting AI as a purely technical or classroom issue, the session focuses on governance, ethics, and alignment with institutional mission. Participants will be invited to reflect on their own campus context and consider what it means to move from reactive use of AI toward a more deliberate and sustainable strategy.
