Blankenship was the head women's soccer coach for Lynn University from 1986 to 1998. While at Lynn, he was named NAIA Coach of the Year five times (1988, 1990, 1992, 1994 & 1995) and NSCAA Coach of the Year twice (1992 and 1994). The Fighting Knights earned post-season berths in nine of his 12 seasons patrolling the sidelines, winning the National Championship three times (1992, 1994 & 1995) and finishing runners-up twice (1991 and 1993). Blankenship holds the program's all-time record for wins,198-37-8 (.832), and is third among Lynn University's coaches all-time in victories. After Lynn, Blankenship held the position of head women's soccer coach at the University of Miami. He started the program in 1998 and helped to build it into a national contender in only four years. Under his direction, the Hurricanes climbed as high as a no. 14 national ranking. The Boca Raton, Fla. native joined Jacksonville University's staff in 2002 and returned home in 2003 as a coach for Florida Atlantic University. Blankenship undertook a new challenge in 2007 when he became the first women's soccer coach at Florida Gulf Coast University, a position he still holds today.
