The Religious Order of the Sacred Heart of Mary broke ground for Marymount College in Boca Raton on Saturday, June 9, 1962. In 1975, Marymount would become known as the College of Boca Raton and, in 1991, Lynn University.

Marymount was the first two-year Catholic junior college for women in Florida and the fifth Marymount College in the country. Other Marymount Colleges were in New York City Tarrytown, NY, Palos Verdes, CA, and Arlington, VA.

In late September 1963, the 98 students of Marymount College's pioneer class arrives on campus and begin class on September 24, 1963. Reportedly, women came from 18 states and four foreign countries. There were also 12 local students.
