Steenkamp, a four-year letter winner of the men's soccer squad, graduated from Lynn in 1993. He was a four-time NAIA All-America selection and was honored as the NAIA and LU Most Valuable Player in 1991 when the Fighting Knights won their second National Championship. Steenkamp still holds the program record for goals in a game (4) and is in the top-five for goals (25) and points (63) in a season and matches played (89), goals (60), assists (29) and points (149) for a career. Since leaving Lynn, the South Africa native has had a healthy professional soccer career that has lasted over 12 seasons. Playing primarily for the Rochester Rhinos, Steenkamp is a three-time recipient of the Leadership Award and was named MVP once.
